Mt. Daraitan

All you need is a little experience.

Nov. 14, 2015 - the day we went to Mt. Daraitan, Tanay, Rizal. Me and my friends decided to go for a day hike.

Let me share you my experience.

2:30 AM - I woke up and felt I was dreaming coz my friends aren't replying on my texts and calls. Haha. Sleepy pa.

4:00 AM - we left home kasi 5 AM ang call time. Sadly, our other friends are still sleepy and we end up late and naiwan kami ng service.

5:45 AM - commute to Tanay via Junction Cainta.

*If you're planning to go there, here is the direction. From Cubao/Katipunan, take a Jeepney routing to Cainta/Junction. Drop off at Junction and ride a jeep to Tanay Rizal (PHP 45.00) and drop off at Save More Tanay. Ride a tricycle to Daraitan which may cost you more than PHP 100 every person. I know it's expensive bu trust me it's the cheapest. When you got to Daraitan, ride a boat (PHP 5) so you may cross the river. And from there you may ride again a tricycle to Brgy. Hall. That is where you will meet your tour guide and have a briefing regarding the trail and itenerary to the Mt. Daraitan summit.

8:30 AM - we arrived at brgy hall and met our Team Leader, Frank and our lovely tour guide Richard.

As soon as he discuss all the info regarding the journey, we started to embark ourselves on our way up.

At first it was okay but as you go on, it was so tiring. I felt like I was gonna give up but I told to myself, why should you give up, you're already half way. You can do this.

And then...

WE REACHED THE SUMMIT. The feeling was incredible. I felt achieved and happy. I felt proud of myself. I am strong.

An hour later (after mealtime and selfies around the summit), we go down.. And IT WAS SO MUCH HARDER THAN GOING UP. It was muddy and rocky. I stumble several times, it was so slippery and difficult to handle. My legs are starting to shake, I had my full concentration because one step can lead you to sprain or fracture.

As we went our way down.. We are moving closer to Tinipak river..

IT WAS MAJESTIC. The beautiful blue green water.. The greener landscape.. The clear and cold water.. Such a reward for a job well done..

5:00 PM - we decided to go home. We walk towards the end of the river and took a tricycle ride to brgy hall. And follow the same procedure on our way home.

10:00 PM - we safely got home and rest.

I have my realizations during this trip.

1. In a place where help is limited, you need to get up and make a living. No ones gonna do the work for you. You need to be responsible in order for you to survive. The lives of the people who are living near the mountain is very difficult. No electricity, limited access to the technology we have in the city, food and water.

2. The government should make a budget and focus on the tourism. People like the tour guide, tricycle driver (kuya Bobot), and the locals should earn more for the service. Dapat silang bigyan ng halaga dahil sila ang nag hahatid at nag bibigay ng magandang experience sa mga turista. Hindi yung nag fo-focus ang government sa walang kwentang bagay.

3. Be young and live free. "you only live once."

4. God created wonderfully. Doon mo makikita kung gaano sya ka-galing at ka-powerful. Ganun sya. Napaka galing.

It was an unforgettable experience. I'm sure I'm gonna ask for more. #MtDaraitan
